Some ways I regularly use binaural beat audio:

  1. Use as a timer for work, study, or creative sessions. If I am needing to get some writing or work done, I will choose an hour-long frequency track (usually 40 Hz or 10 Hz), pop in my headphones, and get to work. They help me tune out distractions and act as a reminder to stay focused on what I’m doing. I love pure tones for this purpose.
  2. When I feel particularly overwhelmed with anxiety, I will choose a frequency (usually 3.6 Hz or 7.83 Hz) and do a brain dump, writing down everything on my mind. Or just work on art or do something I enjoy. I love nature sound backgrounds for this because they make me feel even more calm and grounded.
  3. When I’m feeling too analytical and experiencing creative blocks, I will listen to binaural beats in the theta/alpha range to help relax me and get the creative juices flowing.
  4. When I’m feeling like a scatterbrain, can’t focus, can’t stop picking up my phone, etc. etc. I will listen to 40 Hz gamma waves and sit down to start brainstorming. It usually takes about 10 minutes before I find my groove and can get back in the zone. My favourite is the 40Hz with underwater ambiance.

When you first start listening to binaural beats (especially pure tones) you may find they can take some getting used to… or seem like a little much. I still experience this from time to time, but usually, after a few minutes your brain starts to tune them out and they become more of a comfortable background hum. Just make sure you start with a comfortable low volume :)

Note: It’s my opinion that the best benefit of using binaural beats is the awareness it fosters in ourselves. We take the time to notice our state, where we are at, and what we need. And then move forward with an intention of how we want to better spend our time. That alone is hard to do in today’s world and I hope you find the same benefits I do from listening :)
